“The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge.”

  • Stephen Hawking, famous British cosmologist and theoretical physicist

I have always been intrigued by the unknown—places, people, and things that have captivated the world but never truly embraced. But alas, formal education slowly eroded these interests. Replacing my wonder of mysticism were scientific studies and factual data.

A few years ago, though, when my interest in the subject was re-ignited, I started reading about energies, natural means of healing, ancient civilizations, and the mystical world. While there is a plethora of online content and resources for these subjects, I needed help finding a singular source of information and education for all of these things that mainstream media seems to shun.

Well, that was until I found Gaia TV. My first encounter with the streaming service was an ad on YouTube. The ad featured the series “Initiation” by Matias De Stefano. After a few seconds of watching the ad, I was captivated. Since then, I have been a constant consumer of the platform, which offers a massive library of original films, documentaries, interviews, and more, uncovering mind-expanding alternative content.

The world Gaia opened for me has completely changed my life and how I look at information in the universe. As Stephen Hawking famously said, the greatest enemy of humankind is not ignorance but the illusion that we already know everything there is to know about the universe.

As a seeker of truth, I know multiple worlds are out there, ready for us to discover. And Gaia has helped me explore these worlds, one amazing discovery at a time.

Below is my first-hand and honest review of Gaia TV, where I share my personal experience, a brief guide on what to expect if you subscribe, and whether or not it’s right for you.

What is Gaia TV?

how much is gaia tv

So, what exactly is Gaia TV, which has been called “The Netflix of Spirituality?” This part of the review will explain everything you need to know about it.

Gaia TV is an American online streaming network featuring award-winning films, documentaries, series, interviews, workshops, articles, and more. Its focus is yoga, meditation, spiritual growth, the supernatural, mystics, the occult, ancient civilizations, and even extraterrestrial life.

It is a subscription-based streaming network owned by Gaia, Inc., which owns 85% of all the content available on the platform. About 75% of Gaia TV’s content library is exclusively produced by the company, which means it is the only place you can find and watch most of the content on the network. Its other content is made by other media companies and creators, which aligns with the company’s mission and vision. Speaking of, I’d like to share what these are.

Mission and Vision

Gaia TV’s vision is to “empower the evolution of consciousness,” while to “create a transformational network that empowers a global conscious community” is its mission.

The company calls its avid members “Gaians,” which they describe as people who strongly desire to participate in this community and contribute to the overall harmony of reality.

Veering away from mainstream media and what is deemed acceptable information, Gaia seeks to provide alternative knowledge to expand and empower elevated consciousness.

This comes from the company’s core belief that reality and knowledge can be easily manipulated. What is being fed to the masses does not necessarily represent the whole truth, and to experience that, we must expand our knowledge and experiences of the universe.

Every video, article, interview, series, film, or documentary available in Gaia is made with these principles, mission, and vision in mind.

History

Gaia TV is considered the most significant resource of conscious-expanding online content today. With over 10,000 titles, it has become the leading source of ad-free streaming videos on spiritual growth, healing, personal development, and fringe science. But it didn’t start that way.

The company was founded in 1988 by Czechoslovakian-born Jirka Rysavy. It initially marketed itself as a yoga equipment company based in Louisville, Colorado. To complement its yoga equipment distribution business, it sold mail-order alternative medicine products and exclusive videos, but it eventually expanded to become a social community.

By 2007, Gaia had its first online community, and by 2012, Gaiam TV had been created as a streaming service. The network’s name was eventually changed to Gaia TV in 2015, and by 2018, it had over 500,000 subscribers. By 2020, the number of Gaia TV subscribers was recorded at 728,000.

Gaia’s Content Library

gaia categories

As the world’s most comprehensive platform dedicated to life transformation, Gaia has a massive content library featuring over 8,000 videos and over 10,000 titles, including articles, workshops, guides, movies, documentaries, and classes. The network is also available in four languages: English, Spanish, French, and German.

Created by Gaia TV and leading experts in spiritual growth, healing, and history, the company’s programming offers various alternative subjects, including yoga, meditation, energy healing, metaphysics, alchemy, naturopathy, ancient civilizations, and more.

Once you download the app or visit the site, you’ll discover that Gaia offers the following major categories:

Gaia features a rich collection of original, critically acclaimed, award-winning documentaries, films, and short videos on demand.

Award-Winning Documentaries and Films

Among the most popular films is Astral City, which explores the mysteries of life and death, focusing on the afterlife. It features stories of real-life near-death experiences and the possibilities of what lies in the space beyond life itself.

Another popular movie is Heal, which can be found on other platforms and the film’s website. It perfectly represents the company’s mission of bringing excellent storytelling and science into the minds of its audience. The documentary tackles the idea that our thoughts, emotions, and beliefs directly impact our physical health and capacity to heal our bodies. Some of the most notable experts on the film include Deepak Chopra, Dr. Michael Beckwith, Gregg Braden, Dr. Bernie Seigel, and so much more.

Other notable titles include Ayahuasca: Vine of the Soul, Mystery of the Maya, Magic Medicine, and The Esoteric Agenda, as well as a vast collection of films covering almost every topic related to the mysteries of the world, spiritual growth and healing, and other alternative topics typically not covered by the mainstream documentary and film industry.

Exclusive Series and Interviews

What is the best part about subscribing to Gaia TV?

The network’s exclusive series and interviews of some of the world’s leading experts on the supernatural and spiritual fields are the most eye-opening content I have ever witnessed. There’s something about how these experts and mystics tell their stories and share their knowledge that can make you listen with awe, breaking away preconceived notions of the world or reality. Once you watch any of these original series or interviews, you’ll quickly realize there’s more to the world than what is taught in school or presented in the news or media.

Original Series

There are dozens of these original series on Gaia TV, and new episodes are released each week. Among the most popular include Sacred Geometry by Robert J. Gilbert, Ancient Civilizations, Mysteries of the Knights Templar, Open Minds: Soul Contracts and Quantum Medicine by Dr. Anoop Kumar, Quantum Communication, and, of course, Initiation by Matias De Stefano.

With multiple episodes and seemingly never-ending new content each week, Gaia TV’s original series is a goldmine of detailed videos meticulously created to help you learn, unlearn, understand, and discover many different alternative topics and information.

Yoga and Meditation Practices

As a company that originated as a yoga equipment distributor, it comes as no surprise that Gaia TV is also a significant resource of yoga and meditation content, with hundreds of videos, articles, and short clips to consume. They offer yoga instructional videos that range from 10 to 30 minutes, presented and taught by certified yoga instructors like Rodney Yee and Bonnie Pierce, as well as meditation clips, guides, and breathing exercises.

Whether you’ve never tried yoga or are a seasoned practitioner, you’ll find something useful in Gaia TV’s yoga and meditation category. Their yoga content includes Vinyasa, Hatha, and Yin/Restorative.

Topics and Genres

I also wanted to share the general topics Gaia TV has on the network. I’ve mentioned spiritual growth, healing, supernatural, mystics, etc., but what topics and genres can you find on the platform?

Well, there’s only one word to describe the rich library of Gaia TV, and that’s “everything.” Everything about the occult, the mysteries of life, and everything that can’t be found in a regular school book is in Gaia. Whether you’re interested in fasting, grounding, superfoods, conspiracy theories, extraterrestrials, biohacking, or other dimensions, you will find it on Gaia TV.

Allow me to enumerate the significant topics and genres you can find on Gaia TV:

  • Health and Healing
  • Yoga and Meditation
  • Spiritual Growth
  • Expanded Consciousness
  • Hidden History
  • Supernatural
  • Coverups
  • Unexplained

Under each of these major categories are subcategories that feature different offerings in the form of documentaries, films, series, interviews, and articles. From learning about the magic of Ayahuasca to learning about the Paleo diet to discovering the Akashic Records, the world of knowledge presented by Gaia TV is boundless. It is the most significant online resource of alternative content and media today.

Your plan must be canceled using the platform you used to create your account. If you subscribe to Gaia TV using the app, you must cancel your membership through the app as well. If you got your membership through Amazon Prime, you need to cancel your membership through the 3rd party streaming platform.

Customer support for cancellation must also be provided through the platform where you subscribed.

Here’s a brief guide on how to get started on your subscription:

Step 1: Choose where to subscribe: the app, website, or through 3rd party streaming services like Amazon Prime or Apple TV.

Step 2: Enter your email address and click “Start Free Trial.”

Step 3: Choose your preferred payment plan.

Step 4: Create your profile/s and start watching.

It’s easy to get started on your membership. There is much content and information, so take your time and enjoy watching. If you don’t cancel your subscription after seven days, you’ll be automatically charged for the payment plan you choose to get, whether monthly or annual.

GAIA+ Events

Gaia Plus

Since I mentioned the price for Gaia+ earlier, it’s time to discuss this unique feature. Gaia+ Events is the platform’s special feature that offers practical video guides, livestream workshops, and events featuring leading experts, authors, and teachers. They are either live during special events or on demand. During these live workshops and classes, you can connect with other members of the Gaia community, creating an interactive and immersive experience for learning and discovering online.

Some of the things you can find in Gaia+ include the following:

  • Practical Guides for Different Topics
  • Livestream Workshops and Events
  • Live Chat with Other Members
  • Access to the Full Library of On-Demand Workshops

Upcoming 2024 events include the Ancient Civilization Conference at the GaiaSphere Event Center in Boulder, Colorado. The Event Center was built in 2019 to host events and workshops by world-renowned leaders, experts, and authors. It’s a 12-acre property located just outside Boulder, surrounded by trails, a custom water feature, a meditation labyrinth, and crystals. There’s also a Gaia shop selling original merchandise, and the Gaia Studio, where creators and experts can film their guides and workshops on the site.

Events, workshops, and conferences are held at the GaiaSphere, where Gaia TV members can buy tickets and attend in person. These events are live-streamed if you can’t participate personally.

Pros and Cons

I’ve been discussing how great Gaia TV is, providing general information about the company, and explaining what you can expect from the streaming service. Aside from highlighting its great things, I also wanted to discuss some of the platform’s shortcomings.

Here is my take on the pros and cons of Gaia TV:

Advantages of Gaia TV

  • Extensive yoga content for beginners and advanced yogis
  • The most extensive library of documentaries, films, original series, and interviews with over 10,000 titles
  • Offers workshops, live events, and guides from the world’s leading experts
  • Offers a 7-day free trial period
  • Covers a wide range of topics and genres
  • Releases new videos and content every week
  • Comprehensive resource for all things supernatural, spiritual, natural healing, and other topics not covered by mainstream media
  • Compatible with most devices
  • Accessible through 3rd party platforms

Gaia TV’s most significant advantage is that it is the most extensive resource for online alternative information and education. You’ll find it here if you’re curious about a specific topic, such as spirituality or natural healing. Whether you’re looking for breathing exercises for anxiety, information about the Amazon’s ancient civilizations, conspiracy theories, manifestations, and so on, you will find a wealth of resources on Gaia TV.

I also love that you can subscribe and access the site through the app or the website using any of your devices. While at home, you can watch the videos on a laptop, on your phone when commuting to work, or even when traveling.

Furthermore, you’ll always have enough content to watch and read. Gaia TV releases new weekly content, whether episodes in their original series or new practical guides, articles, or news. There’s a lot of content to consume.

Gaia TV is the premier online resource for anyone interested in yoga, natural healing, spirituality, the supernatural, and alternative knowledge in general.

Limitations and Critiques

While I might seem like I sing all praises for the network, I do want to share some of the limitations and general critiques of Gaia TV. Here are some of them:

  • The content can be overwhelming, and information overload might cause content burnout.
  • The website and the app have different resources.
  • Critics have called out the site for featuring coverups and conspiracy theories.
  • General content is a mix of science and pseudoscience.
  • At times, customer support takes several days to respond.

If you look up what people say about Gaia on sites like Reddit and Quora, you might be surprised that many have negative things to say about the network. The consensus is that a big chunk of the content the company churns out is coverups, conspiracy theories, and spiritual knowledge without scientific basis.

While this may be true, since alternative realities, metaphysics, and other spiritual topics are hard to prove, it only affirms what Gaia TV has been saying. Most people are only exposed to mainstream media and regular education. They rarely leave these science-backed facts to see more than what meets the eye. There is more to the universe than we can imagine, and knowledge is never complete. There is always something to discover, something to unravel, and things to learn every day.

Gaia TV provides a fantastic platform to open our eyes and minds to the possibilities of knowledge beyond the four corners of a classroom, what is being said on the news, or what is in magazines and technical books.

You might want to leave instantly if you visit Gaia TV’s app or website without an open mind and curiosity. But suppose you leave your consciousness open to welcome and discover information you can’t find in mainstream media. In that case, you’ll be awakened to a world of possibilities beyond what the physical eye can see.

My Personal Experience with Gaia TV

Now that I’ve covered everything you need to know about the streaming platform, let me share my experience of subscribing to it.

Earlier in this review, I mentioned that my first encounter with Gaia was a YouTube ad. Of course, I didn’t subscribe right away. I wanted to see what the site was all about. I surfed through their channel and started watching the short clips, discovering videos about ancient civilizations, watching talks by Michael Beckwith, Steven Greer, Gregg Braden, and others, as well as hidden stories about Shakespeare, occult magic, the pyramids, crop circles, and many other short clips on the channel.

Of course, these were only 5 to 30 minutes long. Still, the cinematography, high-quality images, sharp audio, and intriguing music in each video (plus the commitment to extensive content) kept me hooked. It took me a while to try the free trial offer because watching the videos on YouTube was enough to give me the information I needed.

Boy, was I wrong! I saw a series about Ram Dass featuring about 64 episodes and quickly realized it would be impossible to watch the entire show in only six days. I was curious about his “Somebody Training” concept and how you can break free of that to live authentically being who you are. At first, I thought 64 episodes was just too much, but when I watched the short clip about him on Gaia’s YouTube channel, I knew I had to learn more.

Most of the series have multiple episodes that will take you weeks to complete, which means that each show contains so much information that the streaming platform is like an online encyclopedia of alternative information.

I could watch a few episodes of the Ram Dass series during my free trial period, but being deep into the show, I just had to continue watching. This was a few months ago, and I’ve been a “Gaian” ever since.

I only got the monthly plan, which charges $11.99/month, since I’m unsure if I want to be a member for an entire year. I’m using this time to watch and read as much as possible from the content library since there is much to consume. I haven’t decided whether to join Gaia+ since it’s a significant investment, and I’m okay with the monthly plan (for now).

Here’s a rundown of 3 of my favorite films/shows so far:

  1. Crystal Healing, Manifestation, and Alchemy

Crystals Healing Manifestation Alchemy

This show is about crystals and crystal healing for anyone who wants to start collecting and using them for energy healing and manifestation. I learned about the many kinds of crystals, their specific uses, their history, and how I can use them for protection, emotional balance, and even attraction of prosperity and abundance. I liked that it was easy to understand for someone like me who’s not (yet) a significant crystal aficionado.

  1. Initiation by Matias De Stefano

Initiation series

This was the show that attracted me to Gaia TV. De Stefano talks about remembering and having access to the Akashic Records and how it helped him understand the creation of the universe. He also teaches us that we have complete control over our reality and can transcend it.

I still need to finish the show, but the knowledge he shares is something I’ve never heard of before. I found it hard to understand at first, so I would rewatch some of the episodes to understand the next one.

  1. Becoming Nobody

Becoming Nobody

This is a film about Ram Dass and his life. It talks about his life before he went to India and how he transformed himself from being a rockstar Harvard psychologist into a spiritual leader. He was among the first proponents of bringing Eastern and Western philosophies together.

It discusses his teachings only slightly compared to the series, The Teachings of Ram Dass, but it helped me understand how he found his truth and how we can apply it in our lives.

Other shows that I enjoyed include The Abundance Code and The Tapping Solution.

Paying $11.99 monthly for this wealth of knowledge and information is worth every penny. I’ve always been intrigued by the supernatural and spiritual world, and I never learned these things in school. They genuinely are eye-opening and expand my consciousness.

Sometimes, life can get pretty mundane and depressing, and we often wonder if there’s more to life than our current reality. Through Gaia TV, I discovered there is more to life than it seems.

The streaming platform makes it easy for people like me to understand these concepts without all the complicated jargon and processes of these concepts and philosophies. They’re not some scientific paper in a journal. Gaia TV makes alternative information easy to digest, understandable, and, of course, entertaining.

Final Thoughts

Gaia TV is the wealthiest source of alternative information on the World Wide Web today. It combines ancient knowledge, spirituality, and scientific findings in one space. Whether you’re looking for basic yoga classes, hidden secrets about ancient civilizations, or the latest findings about natural healing, you will find it here.

Offering an easy-to-navigate interface, compatibility with most devices, and an affordable subscription plan, Gaia TV is a must for anyone who seeks the truth about reality, the universe, and their consciousness.

Gaia TV may not be everyone’s cup of tea. It is eye-opening, consciousness-expanding, and sometimes mind-boggling. However, it is critical to genuine understanding and wisdom for the truth seeker who understands that there is more to life and the universe than what is found in books and traditional media.

As Stephen Hawking quotes at the beginning of the article, it is a mere illusion that knowledge is already complete. Actual knowledge is about discovering, learning, re-learning, and uncovering what is hidden. I believe Gaia TV is one of the few companies seeking to provide this.

FAQ

1. What content is available on Gaia TV?

Gaia TV contains thousands of videos, articles, and resources about the supernatural, spiritual, and occult, as well as scientific information on natural healing, physical fitness, and the world’s mysteries.

2. Is Gaia free with Amazon Prime?

No, Gaia TV is not accessible with Amazon Prime. You must pay a separate subscription ($11.99/month) to access Gaia through this third-party streaming platform.

3. How do the subscription plans and pricing for Gaia TV compare with other streaming services?

Mindvalley is similar to Gaia TV, offering transformational videos and workshops for the mind, body, and spirit. Unlike Gaia, Mindvalley focuses on being an online learning platform with content similar to Gaia+ Events.

Mindvalley and Gaia+ Events offer the same price of $299/year. However, the former does offer a monthly plan at $49/year, while Gaia+ Events doesn’t have a monthly plan. Similarly, Mindvalley doesn’t provide a content-only membership, while Gaia TV does, at $11.99/month or $99.99 a year.

If you’re not interested in joining classes or workshops and want to learn at your own pace, Gaia TV offers a more affordable option than Mindvalley.

4. Can Gaia TV’s content be accessed via Amazon Prime, and if so, what are the terms?

Yes, you can. If you pay for your Gaia TV subscription through Amazon Prime, you can access the content through this third-party streaming platform. However, you can’t access Gaia if you visit the website or the app since your subscription is with Amazon Prime.

5. What is the general customer feedback and satisfaction with Gaia TV services?

For me, there are two kinds of people who subscribe to Gaia TV: the skeptics whose minds are closed to finding the truth and the curious/believers who have an open mind.

Skeptics may view Gaia TV as a source of unreliable information, but it is one of the best alternative information resources online for truth seekers.

6. Who is behind Gaia TV, and how does this influence the type of content offered?

Jirka Rysavy is the founder of Gaia TV and CEO until December 2023. Initially, the company was more focused on yoga and alternative medicine but has evolved into a media company that aligns with the founder’s beliefs of unraveling the truth of the known and the unknown of the universe.
